Regular Decision Explained
Written by Ascend Academic mentors—students from top universities helping others succeed.
Regular decision is the standard, non-binding application round with later deadlines and spring notifications. Here’s how it works.
Deadlines and Notifications
Deadlines are typically January; decisions come in March or April. You have until May 1 to decide unless you applied early elsewhere and were admitted.
How It Fits Your Plan
Many students apply RD to most schools and use EA or ED for one or two. See early decision vs early action and timeline.
Support
For list and deadline strategy, college admissions counseling can help.
