ACT Score Percentiles Explained
Written by Ascend Academic mentors—students from top universities helping others succeed.
Your ACT composite and section scores come with percentile ranks. Understanding them helps you set targets and track progress.
What Percentiles Show
A percentile rank tells you what share of test-takers scored at or below your score. The ACT reports percentiles for composite and each section.
Using Percentiles for Planning
Use them to see where you stand and to set a goal (e.g. “move from 60th to 75th percentile”). They’re also useful when comparing to college midranges.
